Ain’t no mountain high enough

Over the last couple of weeks our chief executive, Gildas Walton, has been out of the office. Annual leave? Of sorts, but not the relaxing week-long holiday he may have needed after a busy summer period at Griffin Media. Instead, Gildas has taken on sub-zero temperatures, high altitude and exhaustion during a gruelling ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro.

“When I read that Kilimanjaro is not only Africa’s highest peak, but also the world’s tallest free-standing mountain at 5,895 metres, I knew it was a challenge I wanted to take on,” says Gildas, now back on safer territory.

“For years I ran regularly to keep fit but recently my knees have been playing up so I had to ready myself for this next-level challenge in the gym, with a few longer hikes towards the end of my training regime to build up my stamina.

“To be frank, it was a brutal experience, but a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m overjoyed to have completed it with a childhood friend, raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK along the way.”
